Idaho woman shares 19-day miscarriage on TikTok, says state’s abortion laws prevented her from getting care
Synopsis
Carmen Broesder spent 19 days miscarrying in Nampa, Idaho unable to receive the medical care she needed due to the state’s abortion ban. Despite heavy bleeding and severe cramps, she was repeatedly denied a D&C, the procedure required to remove remaining tissue from her uterus. ER doctors and OB-GYNs turned her away multiple times, forcing her to “beg for her life,” as she described it. It wasn’t until her TikTok video went viral that she finally received care — an experience so traumatic that she vowed never to try for another child.
ABC News reporter Mary Kekatos shares Carmen’s story and how it reflects a new reality for women in Idaho, where even life-saving care is withheld due to the ambiguity of their abortion ban.
Why should I get to death’s door to get help?…I am prepared to be a mother. I am a mother and I wanted to have another baby. That is my story and it almost killed me.
