Mother whose daughter was kept on life support due to abortion ban speaks out
Synopsis
April Newkirk’s daughter, Adriana Smith, was declared dead after a medical emergency but kept on life support under Georgia’s abortion ban because she was pregnant. Adriana died February 19th, 2025, but doctors kept her on life support for nearly four months so her son could be born. Her mother remained by her side. She told her story in an interview with ABC senior political correspondent Rachel Scott.
They said they’d treat the baby as a patient, and she was no longer a patient because of the law that they have here in Georgia.
