Romina, 14: The Story of My Abortion
Synopsis
At 14, Romina found herself pregnant in a Southern state where abortion is illegal. With the help of filmmaker Paola Mendoza, she made the journey to New York for the abortion care she needed. Mendoza’s short film highlights the fear and injustice faced by girls like Romina living under abortion bans, as well as the strength of the community that helps them.
“I felt very scared. I didn’t know how I was going to tell my mom, but I had to. We both started to cry in the doctor’s office. I asked her for forgiveness and she said it was okay and that we would figure out what to do,” Romina shared in an interview with Glamour.
The doctor told me we couldn’t have an abortion in our state. I felt as if the world was crashing in on me.
