Woman’s arrest after miscarriage in Georgia draws fear and anger
Synopsis
Selena miscarried 5 months into her pregnancy in rural Georgia in the spring of 2025. The 24-year-old was arrested and charged with concealing a death and abandoning a body after police said she placed the remains of her miscarriage in a dumpster. Though an autopsy confirmed she miscarried and the charges were dropped, her arrest is one of dozens being brought under abortion bans. The incidents are fueling the criminalization of pregnancy loss, reports Bracey Harris of NBC News.
Most people experiencing miscarriage are also apparently committing crimes in Georgia.
