Two doulas on how Louisiana’s abortion ban has affected pregnancy care — and why they still find joy in their work
Nanette McCann and Frankie Robertson are friends, fellow doulas, and lifelong Louisianans. On the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, they got together in Baton Rouge for a conversation about changing attitudes toward pregnancy, and how Louisiana’s abortion ban has upended the health care landscape for pregnant people in their home state.
Nanette and Frankie’s conversation was recorded by StoryCorps Studios as part of Abortion in America’s collection of interviews with people in Louisiana about the ways in which the state’s abortion ban has affected their lives. This project was produced in collaboration with Glamour and the Newcomb Institute at Tulane University.
