Indiana OB-GYN: Patients aren’t getting the care they need because of abortion bans

Synopsis

Just weeks after Roe v. Wade was overturned, Dr. Caitlin Bernard gained national attention after providing an abortion in Indiana to a 10-year-old girl. The girl, who was from Ohio, had been raped and was forced to leave her home state for care. Since then, Dr. Bernard has called attention to the trauma for patients of being denied care, as well as the trauma for medical professionals of having to turn patients away because their care doesn’t meet the legal threshold for treatment under abortion bans.

Dr. Bernard spoke with Abortion in America in Austin, Texas to bring greater attention and awareness to the experiences of people living in states with abortion bans.
