Iowa has an OB-GYN shortage. Some doctors blame the state’s strict abortion ban
Synopsis
Iowa Public Radio producer Natalie Krebs talked to Iowa’s OB-GYNs about the conditions they are facing as they see patients under the state’s abortion ban. With the lowest number of OB-GYNs per capita, Iowa’s workforce has been unable to deliver the type of care needed to keep all of their patients safe and healthy. Krebs documents stories of doctors forced to leave the state, feeling like they were “working under too many restrictions to provide the best medical care,” and the ongoing crisis for those who have chosen to stay.
