Connecticut abortion providers adapt to a post-Roe reality
Synopsis
While abortion bans and new restrictions may capture national headlines, states like Connecticut are quietly working to expand access to abortion post-Roe. Recently, the state expanded the definition of who is able to provide abortions. Nicole McIsaac at Shorthand talks to some of the OB-GYNs and lawyers who are defending abortion access in the state. Some leaders are pushing for policy changes, while staff at abortion clinics are going above and beyond to help their patients manage barriers to access like costs, transportation and long wait times for appointments.
People are forced to travel sometimes thousands of miles, (which) is what we’ve seen, too, specifically in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Theresa Van tried to grow her family in Arkansas. She was forced to carry a pregnancy that could not survive.
Chelsea Stovall didn’t think she’d ever need an abortion—then Arkansas forced her to flee the state for one.
