What’s an Ex-Abortion Doctor in Alabama to Do? Fight for better pregnancies and births for those who have no choice.
Synopsis
Dr. Yashica Robinson was once the backbone of abortion care in Alabama. New York Magazine reporter Irin Carmon tells her story, and how the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade abruptly closed this chapter in her life and career.
Instead, Dr. Robinson is turning her focus to improving birth outcomes in a place where being Black and pregnant can be a deadly combination. Her days are spent between surgeries, deliveries, and OB-GYN appointments — all while trying to open a birth center for women who deserve better than a broken system made even more dire under the state’s abortion ban.
Her patients, many of whom she’s known for years, trust her in large part because of her reputation as an abortion provider, and because of her unwavering dedication to her community.
