Abortion in America
Why Jessica Valenti says abortion made her life possible
Synopsis
Jessica Valenti has had two abortions. Both, she says, shaped the life she has today as a mother and a feminist. When her daughter was born in 2010, Jessica developed life-threatening preeclampsia. Three years later, facing another high-risk pregnancy, she chose abortion to protect her health and make sure she could be around to raise her daughter. Abortion bans deny other women the options Jessica had to protect herself and her family.
Jessica spoke with Abortion in America in Austin, Texas to bring greater attention and awareness to the experiences of people living in states with abortion bans.
I was never going to risk leaving my daughter without a mother. I didn’t want to risk my life.
