Synopsis

In an interview on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, Kerry Washington said filming an abortion scene on the ABC drama Scandal felt “cathartic,” drawing on her own experience, which she later shared publicly after Roe v. Wade overturned. Her character, a political crisis manager in D.C., has an abortion while a senator filibusters against Planned Parenthood at the Capitol, which was one of the first portrayals of an abortion procedure on T.V. Although she did not speak publicly about her abortion at the time, she said acting it on screen helped her feel “less to hide” and “healed.”
