Abortion in America
Pregnant at 12 after sexual assault, Hadley Duvall is fighting to make sure her fellow survivors have options
Synopsis
Hadley Duvall was 12 years old and living in Owensboro, Kentucky when she got pregnant after years of being raped by her stepfather.
She ended up miscarrying alone in her bathroom, too afraid to wake her sleeping mother or seek help before having to go back to middle school. A decade later, after Roe v. Wade was overturned, Hadley’s first thought was for her fellow survivors. In Hadley’s words: “In that moment, I knew I had options. And when Roe was overturned, so many younger girls lost those options.”
Hadley spoke with Abortion in America in Austin, Texas to bring greater attention and awareness to the experiences of people living in states with abortion bans.
I remember going to school and looking around wondering if anybody else was pregnant.
A Texas pregnancy center told her everything was fine. Three days later, she was in the ER
Doctors told her she was miscarrying, but they couldn’t help until her daughter had no heartbeat.
